Piranha Propellers
Product and Sales Information

An informed consumer is more likely to buy when they are more comfortable with the decision to try a "new" product. Please review the following points.

MATERIAL: Piranha Propellers are made of Verton®, which has a tensile strength 10-15% greater than aluminum. Vertron is comprised primarily of long-fiber glass and nylon. Tensile strength comparison:

Verton® 42,000 psi
Die-cast Aluminum 36,000 psi
Other Composites 26,000 psi

PIRANHA HUBS: Our hubs have a core of high strength extruded aluminum, over-molded with Verton®. We have a lifetime warranty on the hub. A cut-away hub that clearly shows the aluminum core can be supplied to you at no charge. Placing this cut-away hub on the counter can attract a lot of attention.

DAMAGED PROPS: Because of Verton's® high tensile strength, our blades are designed to absorb impact energy generated by a strong propeller strike. This feature protects the lower unit from internal damage. If a Piranha blade is damaged, the customer can quickly and easily replace it themselves for around $20.00.

BALANCED PROPS: We have one mold for each of our different blade styles. For example, every 1419A blade will come from the same mold, making every 1419A blade identical in size, shape and weight.

REPITCH:With a Piranha Propeller, you can repitch a prop for half the cost of a new propeller. Spare blades to repitch or repair the prop can be stored easily on the boat. Remember, even three spare blades cost much less than a new spare aluminum propeller does.

EXCHANGE POLICY: We have a liberal exchange policy. If a customer needs a pitch other than the pitch purchased, we will exchange a set of blades to make sure the customer is propped correctly. A small $5.50 Shipping & Handling charge applies.

RISK FREE - MONEY BACK GUARANTEE: All of our propellers carry a 30 day money back guarantee for the customer purchasing the propeller. It's easy to be suspicious of something you don't understand.

What you need to Know
(Questions we will ask you about the boat you are fitting)

  • Year, Make and horsepower of engine.
  • Recommended operating range of engine RPM at wide open throttle (WOT).
  • Diameter and pitch of current propeller.
  • Material of propeller (composite, aluminum, stainless steel).
  • Engine RPM at WOT with current propeller and top speed.
  • Size and type of boat.
  • Primary use of boat (skiing, cruising, fishing).

The Versatility and Simplicity of changing blades makes standard die cast aluminum propellers a thing of the past for all recreational boaters. You can now repair a damaged propeller quickly and easily with no down time, and at much less cost!

We recommend carrying an extra set of blades so that no boating time is wasted while out on the water.

Troubleshooting
Tips on picking the correct propeller

The engine is running below the recommended RPM operating range at wide open throttle. Reduce the pitch of the propeller. (For every 2" of pitch you subtract, your engine will gain approximately 400 RPM.)
The engine is running above the recommended RPM operating range at wide open throttle. Increase the pitch of the propeller. (For every 2" of pitch you add, your engine will lose approximately 400 RPM.)
The boat is slow out of the hole. Reduce the pitch and/or increase the diameter of the propeller. (Be sure the propeller stays within the engines recommended operating range when running at wide open throttle.)
The boat has a slow top speed.Increase the pitch and/or reduce the diameter of the propeller. (Be sure the propeller stays within the engines recommended operating range when running at wide open throttle.)

Piranha Hydrofoil/Stabilizer
with Vectored Hydro-Ports from Piranha Propellers

The Piranha Hydrofoil/Stabilizer is a revolutionary new product that blends advanced hydrodynamics with a streamlined design. The Vectored Hydro Ports® (V.H.P.) Allow water to flow through the leading edge of the hydrofoil during initial acceleration.

When the boat is in this "high angle of attack" the water flows through the hydro-ports improving the lifting ability of the hydrofoil. The anti-vortex tips have also been added to the ends of the hydrofoil to increase lift as well as reduce unwanted steering torque during acceleration.

Made of Verton®, the same high strength material used to produce our quality composite-modular propellers, the hydrofoil is incredibly strong and corrosion-free.

This advanced engineering has produced an innovative hydrofoil that:

  • Has a faster time to plane
  • Improves fuel economy
  • Reduces steering torque up to 30%
  • Keeps the bow lower during acceleration for better over the bow visibility
  • Provides lower planing speeds for the new generation of knee and wake board activities.
  • Will fit I/O's and outboards from 20 to 260 HP
  • Is simple to install
  • Is corrosion-free

Piranha Propellers
Assembly/Installation Instructions

Three Blade Propellers

  1. Install blades into hub. Blade retention area is tapered, so the blades will only go into hub one way.
  2. Position the front and rear caps so the alignment pins insert into the hub and push into place. Some models have the front cap molded as part of the hub, leaving only the rear cap to attach.
  3. Remove your old propeller, propeller nut & hardware, keep the thrust washer on the propeller shaft.
  4. With the thrust washer on propeller shaft, slide the Piranha Propeller on shaft. Install the washer and propeller nut,and tighten propeller nut to 30-50 ft/lbs. Any additional spacers, washers or special propeller nuts necessary for installation will be included with your propeller as follows:

Force "B-style" & Suzuki "C-style" propellers - TWA washer: May be required between prop and stock thrust washer. Suzuki "B-style" & Suzuki/Yamaha/Honda "C-style" propellers - SSWA washer: Required in place of rear spacer washer. Yamaha "A-style" 3 blade propellers - RSYA washer: Required to replace Yamaha's rear spacer washer.
Stainless Steel flat washer (1/2" or 7/16"): Used on any "D-style" & "E-style" rear cap, installed before propeller nut. Volvo 275, 280 & 290 Sterndrives - Stainless Steel nut and flat washer (5/8"): Used in place of Volvo propeller nut assembly.

Four Blade Propellers:

  1. Install blades into hub. Blade retention area is tapered, so the blades will only go into hub one way.
  2. All Four Blade Hubs have an integral front cap molded as part of the hub, leaving only the Rear cap to attach.
  3. Remove your old propeller, an thrust washer from shaft. All 4-Blade propellers have a thrust washer built into the hub. |
**Except Suzuki "B-style" & Volvo 275-290 BV4 "B-style" hub ** Use the stock thrust washer..
  4. Slide the Piranha propeller on the prop shaft. Install the washer and propeller nut, tighten the prop nut to 50 ft/lbs. Any additional spacers, washers or special propeller nuts necessary for installation will be included with your propeller.

MERCRUISER & Mercury V-6 "A-style": Must use High Performance Trim Tab or Modified Stock Trim Tab; check prop clearance before starting engine.

BO4 (Johnson/Evinrude) Four blade hubs come with a SSWA & a Stainless Steel flat washer to use with rear cap (RC04) BEFORE prop nut.

ATTENTION: To prevent corrosion and possible seizing of your propeller to the propshaft, it is important to apply a quality marine grease to your propeller shaft splines when installing a new propeller. For the best in QUALITY GREASE AND LUBRICANTS try Aqua Lube of Kentucky's Waterproof Grease* a free sample may be included with your propeller.
